Our Little Pioneers Program
Little Pioneers begin their day singing along, moving their bodies and listening to stories under the shade trees. Next, it’s an adventure walk down to the Tipi, stopping to observe nature and farm happenings along the way.
At the Tipi children explore and engage in pretend play in our mock Luiseno Tribe Village which includes a Tipi (Kiicha), activities such as cooking on the play campfire, fishing in the creek, weaving, gathering acorns. Here they also explore themed, nature, and STEAM based learning centers with focus on:
Language Arts—practice in prewriting, fine motor skills, letters and sounds, lacing, and being read to
Early Math—numbers, counting, matching, sorting, sequencing, measuring
Science—nature around us, weather, play garden
Sensory Bins-- themed by season, holiday or topic and including any of the above
Students visit one other learning station —Nature, Learning Garden, Art, Farm Animal visit or Kitchen before heading on another adventure walk to the Little Pioneers area where they enjoy their Snack and Free Play. Here children practice social interaction and move freely between pretend play stations-- play kitchens & farm stand, puppet theater, toy animals, cars/trucks and activity stations—sensory tubs, puzzles, lacing, drawing and reading books.
They end their day where they started, share a recap of the day, sing alongs and dancing before pick up.
